The rheumatology clinic is a part of internal medicine and is responsible for the treatment of various diseases in the joints and connective tissues. Contrary to general belief, the rheumatology clinic also specializes in a variety of autoimmune diseases such as ankylosing spondylitis, systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic sclerosis, inflammatory myositis and vasculitis.
Due to the lack of understanding on autoimmune diseases including rheumatoid arthritis and the proper treatments for them, it was difficult to treat these diseases in the past and the prognosis was also very poor. With the advancement in the knowledge on a lot of these diseases, it is now possible to effectively treat them with excellent prognosis.
